I would use the standard Parent Account field to build an account hierarchy, with each subsidiary linked to its parent. Opportunities stay on the subsidiary accounts where deals happen.

For group-level reporting I would consider a field that stores the top-level account, maintained by automation, so reports can group by ultimate parent. I would validate the approach with sample data and confirm how contacts and ownership should work across the hierarchy.

What interviewers look for

Interviewers want use of standard features first and a practical solution for multi-level reporting. A pitfall is creating custom objects to represent corporate groups when the standard hierarchy fits.
